RECIPES

Our weekly CSA newsletter typically contains two recipes that correspond to the contents in that week's share.  Those recipes can be found in the CSA Newsletter page under archived newsletters.  Since people have such different tastes we thought it would be good to provide a listing of recipes for each of the vegetables we offer.  We use several cookbooks as references, as well as recipes by trial and error that we've found to be delicious.

Redipes that will benefit you most depend on your skill level in the kitchen.   Two websites we use frequently and find helpful are www.epicurious.com and www.allrecipes.com.  If we had to recommend two cookbooks the first would be From Asparagus to Zucchini by the Madison Area Community Supported Agriculture Coalition, and the second would be the old standby The Joy of Cooking.  These four resources will provide you with ideas for nearly any vegetable.

If you're like us here at Grinnell Heritage Farm and like to have a number of cookbooks on hand, the following are good vegetable cookbooks for beginners because they include recipes that are easy to prepare and explain both how and why you are doing what you are doing.

Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone  by Deborah Madison
Provides many ideas and lots of vegetable storage tips.

The Roasted Vegetable by Andrea Chesman
This book is of enormous help when innundated with root vegetables.

A Year in a Vegetarian Kitchen by Jack Bishop
        A guide for the seasons.

The Modern Vegetarian Kitchen by Peter Berley
        A good all-around vegetarian cookbook.

Vegetables from Amaranth to Zucchini by Elizabeth Schneider
Not a cookbook so much as a great reference.

Laurel's Kitchen by Laurel Robertson, et al.
Better on breads than vegetables, but full of ideas and information.

Putting Food By by Ruth Hertzberg, et al.
        Great for preservation.

Stocking Up by the Rodale Food Center
        Another great book for preservation.

This list is by no means comprehensive, there are hundreds of great cookbooks out there.  Our cookbook collection tends to be dated so if you have recipes or books you'd like to share please let us know.
